“Many Now See Addiction As A Chronic Brain Disease That Requires New Approaches To Treatment”
Cigna, one of America’s largest health insurance companies, has joined with MIT to sponsor what is called the Open Mind Series at The Picower Institute for Learning and Memory. This group is approaching addiction as a brain disease and looking at the possibilities associated with new approaches to dependency. Cigna cites statistics on addiction’s terrible toll and uses information from many sources to support their observations on cravings and triggers and their impact on the wiring of the brain.
